The world of the Wärdshuset
Describing Grinda and Wärdshuset is easier said than done. Because this has become an establishment in the best sense of the word.
The historic house has looked out over Saxarfjärden since 1906 and is today a legendary landmark for sailors and archipelago guests. For those who visit Grinda Wärdshus, a small world of verandas, dining rooms and bars opens up.

Main Dining Room
If these walls could talk. All kinds of legends have enjoyed good food and drink in the company of happy friends in the Great Dining Room. Large weddings and holidays have also been celebrated here with panache. Now, as then, the generous windows offer a lovely view of the bay and a horizon of sparkling water. Over the years, the menus have changed, but we can proudly say that the feeling for the genuine Swedish archipelago food has always followed.
The Last Room
We gave architect Jonas Bohlin a free hand in the various lounges and rooms of the Wärdshus – including the Last Room, and we have not regretted it. This Chambre séparée has hosted many wine tastings and is where we raise our champagne glasses for weddings and celebrations. For many of our regular guests, the Last Room has also become a pleasant finale to an evening at Grinda Wärdshus.
The lobby
No one who passes through the lobby misses the classic fireplace. Here we light warming fires for the evening and next to it guests sit down with a beer or a good glass of wine. Maybe they grab something from the bar menu, or just play some cards. The sunset that creeps in through the windows to the terrace is not to be missed, a warm light that makes the old wooden panels shine.
Upstairs
If you’ve ever wondered where some guests go when dinner is over, they may have landed “Upstairs”. Here you can sit down in a slightly quieter environment with a good view of the stately staircase leading up from the Foyer. If nothing else, it can be nice to enjoy some good wine and chat undisturbed. During conference days, this often becomes a meeting point during breaks, when people have coffee and talk together.
The Wing
Many breakfast guests recognize the left Wing where the morning buffet is often served. Others call it Nisse’s back pocket, and sneak in from the terrace outside when the evening sun has set. Here you can get more of the good stuff if the party mood is still at its peak.
Loggian
The small alcove with the pillars is a given favorite among our regulars. The loggia at the front of the Wärdshuset adds a lot to the character of the house. It is also perfect for those who want to enjoy good food and drink outdoors, but in a beneficial shelter from the wind.
Nisse´s
Friends gather here for good fellowship and late nights. Nisses has become an obvious meeting place when the evening sun makes its way down through the foliage to the open terrace. Under the wide sails you can find coolness and in the bar at Nisses you can enjoy a drink or have a cool beer. Here is a wonderful community to good music while the night creeps on.
Grindas Terrace
Looking out over the terrace of Grinda Wärdshus on a summer evening is a wonderful experience. With sunshine from morning to evening and a sparkling view of Saxarfjärden, the terrace is a destination in itself. Among the tables, waiters rush with good food and drinks to the guests gathered around the tables. Spirits are high, as they often are when the archipelago shows its most charming side. And above it all, the mother sun is shining
