When we try to describe Grinda and Wärdshuset, it is easier said than done. Because it has become an establishment in the best sense of the word. The historic house has looked out over Saxarfjärden since 1906 and is today a legendary landmark for sailors and visitors to the archipelago. For those who visit Grinda Wärdshus, a small world of verandas, dining rooms and bars opens up. Join us on a small guided tour.
The Great Dining Room
If only these walls could talk. In The Great Dining Room legends of all fashion have enjoyed good food and drink in the company of friends. Large weddings and holidays have also been celebrated here with gusto. The generous windows offer now as then, a lovely view of the bay and a horizon of shimmering water. Over the years, the menus may have changed, but we can proudly say that the feeling for the genuine Swedish archipelago cuisine has stayed intact.
The Last Room
We gave the renowned architect Jonas Bohlin free rein in the Wärdshuset’s various salons and rooms – and so too in the Last Room, and we have not regretted it. Many wine tastings have been held in this chambre séparée and here we raise champagne glasses for weddings and special occasions. For many regulars, The Last Room has also become a pleasant finale to a long rewarding evening at Grinda Wärdshus.
The Foyer
No one who passes through The Foyer misses the classic fireplace. Here we light warming fires for the evening and guests settle down next to it with a beer or a good glass of wine. Maybe you take something from the bar menu, or just play some cards. You can’t miss the sunset looking in through the windows to the terrace, a warm light that makes the old wooden panels shine.
Upstairs
Have you ever wondered how some guests seem to disappear after dinner? The answer may well be that they’ve found their way upstairs. Here you can settle down in a slightly calmer environment with a good view over the stately staircase that leads up from the Foyer. If nothing else, it can be nice to enjoy some good wine undisturbed and have a chat. During conference days, this often becomes a meeting point during breaks, when you have coffee and talk together.
The Wing
Many breakfast guests recognize the wing where the morning buffet is often laid out. Others call it Nisse’s back pocket, and sneak in from the terrace outside when the evening sun has settled. Here, there can be more of all that’s good if the party mood is still high.
The Loggia
The small alcove with the pillars is a given favorite among our regulars. The Loggia on the front of the Wärdshuset gives the house a lot of character. It is also perfect for those who want to enjoy good food and drink outdoors, but in a beneficial shelter from the wind.
Nisses
Friends gather here for good fellowship and late nights. Nisses has become an obvious meeting point when the evening sun finds its way down through the foliage to the open terrace. Under the wide sun sails you can find coolness and in the bar at Nisses you can enjoy a drink or have a cold beer. Here you can enjoy a friendly atmosphere with nice music when the night falls.
Grinda Terrace
Looking out over the terrace at Grinda Wärdshus on a summer evening is a wonderful experience. With the sun shining from morning to evening and a breathtaking view of Saxarfjärden, the terrace is a destination in itself. Between the tables, waiters rush with good food and drinks for the guests gathered around the tables. The mood is at its peak, as it so often is when the archipelago shows its most charming character.
